Amid a Space Between: Irish Artists in America
March 8 – April 19, 2012 || SFMOMA Artists Gallery
Opening Reception March 10, 2012 1pm to 3 pm
The group show aims to explore the unique genre of Irish art in America. Concurrently in chronologies of Irish art history, American art history, and also as art of ‘Other,’ the works will highlight significant traits of Irish art’s Diaspora, which have been inherent in Ireland’s culture and exemplified by the most celebrated Irish artists. The artists’ ambiguous and multifaceted Irish identities create an international dialogue and cross-cultural fusion. The exhibit also aims to illustrate that many artists of various nationalities and groups form communities and create opportunities to exchange ideas and experiences, while concurrently rejecting antiquated desires to organize and classify artists to a particular culture and ethnicity.
This is the San Francisco debut of all the artists.
